The curtain rose on a new Bermuda Golf Association Amstel Summer League season on Saturday at Belmont GC with `A' Division clubs participating.

Port Royal's I and II teams kept alive their winning form from 1992. By the end of the day the second team were atop the standings with 10 points based on 306 strokes. Tied for second were Port Royal I and Belmont with seven points on 309 strokes.

After that it was BGA Men and Ocean View I with four-and-a-half points on 312 strokes tied for fourth place followed by Mid Ocean Club in sixth spot with three points on 315 strokes.

Individually, Hank Ascento and Tony Readwin of Port Royal I shared the lead with a one-over-par 71 followed by Adrian Arnold and Arthur Jones with two-over-par 72 and Roger Harvey and Brendan Ingham on 73.

ROAD RUNNING RUN Mark Perry won the Swan's Five-Miler with ease on Sunday, in a blistering time of 25:38, more than one-and-a-half minutes ahead of second-place finisher Tracy Wright, who ran the event in 26:30.

Neil De Ste. Croix was second in 26:44 and Brett Forgesson grabbed third place in 27:15.

Leading the women's charge was Marathon Derby winner Anna Eatherley, who completed the race in 29:07.

Annette Booth was second female in 31:03 followed by Jane Christie, third, in 31:39.

The race marked the return of Sandra Mewett from a broken wrist and she was fourth best woman in 31:58.

SOCCER SOC Paget Community Club will hold a meeting for all players today (7.30 p.m.) at the Samaritans Hall on Cobbs Hill Road.

CRICKET CRI All members of the Bermuda national squad are to report for training at Southampton Oval this evening at 6.00.

SAILING SLG Nine Etchells sailed in the ninth and 10th races to wrap up the RBYC Madras Cup series on Saturday in westerly winds of 15 to 18 knots.

The first race saw Adam Barboza, helming KB 22, lead all the way around the triangler course as Stevie Dickinson and Timmy Patton finished second and third respectively.

In the second race Patton, Dickinson, Barboza and McNiven were all vying not only for line honours but also for the top three positions overall.

Patton pulled ahead of Dickinson to nail the series while Barboza was third with McNiven finishing fourth to take third overall.
