Titles shared in schoolboys cross country

Boys Cross Country championships at Astwood Park as different winners emerged in the three age groups.

Saltus defended their title in the under-13 division where they beat out Sandys Secondary and Warwick Academy. Saltus were consistent throughout, placing third in the under-15 category, won by Warwick Academy, and second to neighbours Berkeley in the senior age group.

Joel Duffy of Warwick Academy won the under-13s when he completed the two mile distance in 15:09 -- 33 seconds ahead of K.Richards of Saltus in 15:42. David Signor of St. George's was third in 15:57.

Calvert Lee of Warwick Secondary led home the field in the under-15 age group over a distance of two-and-a-half miles. Lee finished in 16:05, 24 seconds ahead of Mark Constable of Warwick Academy who, along with Jamal Scott (10th), Azeem Pitcher (12th), Matthew Collins (13th) and Ibou Barry (14th) combined to lead the Academy to team honours as Berkeley placed second and Saltus third.

Berkeley, as expected, were convincing winners in the over-15 age group as Michael Donawa covered the three mile course in 18:13 to take top spot. Three of the top four and six of the top eight all came from Berkeley as Garon Wilkinson (second), Damon Ming (fourth) and Shannon Lawrence, Kivon Dill and Collin Anderson in sixth, seventh and eighth all contributed.

Saltus, whose best finish was Stephen Fahy's third place, took second and Warwick Academy third.

A total of 111 students took part in the meet, 43 in the under-13s, 34 in the under-15s and 34 in the over-15s.
