Windsurf trio head to Aruba
yesterday where they will represent Bermuda in the 11th annual Aruba Hi-Winds regatta.
Racing gets underway on Monday and continues through to the following Monday, June 9.
Sponsored by the Aruban Tourism Authority, the regatta has become one of the world's largest windsurfing events with an entry of over 200 sailors from 20 different countries.
Burnie is no stranger to Hi-Winds, having been a competitor for the last six years. In fact, his saxophone playing has become an integral part of the beach festivities on the island.
A past Masters winner, Burnie has taken with him no less than six boards and said before leaving he was again confident of winning some of the silverware.
Mello, the reigning Bermuda national champion, and Vezina are returning to Aruba for a second time.
Conditions are expected be ideal over the next week with 30 knot trade winds buffeting the island.
Such strong winds coupled with long beaches and shallow water have made Aruba one of the world's top windsurfing destinations.
