Wolves' slip-up lets Cougars go top
Prospect made a bountiful jaunt from nearby confines atop the hill, entered the rabid Den and promptly devoured then Daihatsu Second Division leaders Wolves 3-1 last night.
Two goals from Robert Goodchild and one from Anthony Mouchette in the first half short-circuited any plans Wolves had of stretching their winning streak and holding onto the top spot.
The men in blue surprisingly dominated a jaded home side to the point of extinction with bustling play up front against a suddenly toothless Wolves defence.
Similarly their attack lacked bite without the services of leading goal-scorer Nathan Webb.
Meanwhile, Prospect were hungry and it took just 12 minutes for them to earn their first helping.
Mouchette found himself in possession on the left side, deep in enemy territory and miskicked a cross, but still had the ball fall perfectly for Goodchild inside the penalty area to home past a drawn goalkeeper.
Five minutes later, the scoreline doubled and again Prospect benefitted from their opponents' misfortune when Mouchette fired an effort from outside the area into a maze of players and it took a deflection, stranding 'keeper Andre Smith.
The final nail was driven by Goodchild courtesy of a perfect through-ball by Allan Wilkinson, which found the midfielder creating a path around two defenders before slotting past a paralysed Smith on his line.
Marlon Lindsay pulled one back in combination with Casey Burgess after 58 minutes and Wolves were briefly invigorated.
The visitors suffered one casualty in Lawrence Smith, who was whisked away via ambulance with a suspected broken left leg following a first-half collision.
Dev. Cougars 6, Paget 0 Devonshire Cougars surged to the head of the Second Division tables with this emphatic victory over lowly Paget in last night's nightcap.
The home team now hold a two-point lead over previous leaders Wolves while the defeat saw Paget drop from sixth to last place on goal difference.
Cougars scored three goals in each half with striker Cleveland Campbell leading the attack with two while others came from Darrid Durrant, Steven Coddington, Dwayne Bean and Devon Brangman.
Paget's goalkeeper Michael Stovell saved a blast from Brangman after 10 minutes, but the Coguars soon got on top and pinned down their opponents.
Durrant put them ahead from a free kick just outside the penalty box after 20 minutes and then Campbell followed up with the second eight minutes later.
Paget were restricted to just one clear chance in the game and this came when a fine header by centre-half Wayne Tucker was pushed over by goalkeeper Leon Place. Coddington netted Cougars' third goal just before the break.
Paget could only offer fight and determination to combat their more skillful opponents and it was no surprise when Cougars went up 4-0 when Dwayne Bean scored after 47 minutes.
Although centre-halves Tucker and Enwar Hunt looked steady, Cougars were still able to open gaping holes in the defence and further goals came from Brangman (53 minutes) and Campbell (89 minutes).
