Cayman Islands, which ended last night.

Standing as the lone local athlete to take the podium was Stephen Woodley who won a bronze medal while competing in the boys under-20 high jump on Saturday.

Woodley successfully cleared the bar at 2.11 metres (6 feet, 11 inches) in tying for third.

However, the result was disappointing as it had been hoped that Woodley would win the event, especially as he had entered as defending champion after taking the gold a year ago when Barbados hosted the Games.

A Jamaican seized first place this year, clearing a height of 2.17 metres (7'11 '').

Bermuda, in fact, had two entries in the under-20 high jump, with Rohaan Simons placing fifth with an effort of 2.05 (6'81 '').

Misfortune struck Bermuda's best hope in the boys under-17 1500 metres final as medal favourite Michael Donawa failed in his bid for a second consecutive first place finish.

Within striking distance as the field neared the bell lap, Donawa was tripped and fell, and although he recovered quickly was unable to reel in the lead pack, eventually finishing well off the pace. Team-mate Garon Wilkinson maintained his footing and went on to finish fourth.

Faring not nearly as well were the sprinters, only two of five making it past the heats into the final. Tariq Hewey in the boys under-17 100 metres and Jarita Dill in the girls under-17 400 metres both reached the final but didn't place.

Those not advancing included Gina Cann (under-17 girls 100 metres), Donte Hunt and Atiba Tucker (both under-20 boys 100 metres).

Sharif Taylor finished eighth in the 400 metres final in just under 49 seconds.

Final events and closing ceremonies were taking place late last night, with Simons and Hunt competing in the triple jump, Taylor and Damon Ming in the boys under-20 800 metres and Wilkinson and Damian Simons lining up in the boys under-17 800 metres.
