Wright and Szabo set pace
Snipes are the only two sailors with perfect records after two days of racing in the International Race Week sponsored by Bacardi.
Both added two more wins yesterday, with Wright now leading the Laser Class by nine points over Mike Lewis and 10 on Robbie Dickinson in third place. Lewis had two seconds and Dickinson a fourth and a third but already they are left with a lot of catching up on in-form Wright with four straight wins. Szabo also has four firsts and he, too, has a nine-point lead over another American, Henry Filter, who remained consistent with two more third place finishes.
Local sailor Malcolm Smith, after disappointing 11th and 15th place finishes on the first day, improved considerably with two fourth places yesterday, though he is still some 29 points adrift of first place. Andreas Lewin lost first place in the Etchells Class after adding a seventh place to his win on day one for 7.75 points. Fellow Bermudian Timmy Patton threw the class wide open with his win yesterday, allowing Graham Bailey of the UK to take over the lead after a second straight second for four points.
Peter Duncan of the United States is third on eight points with Patton a close fourth on 9.75 points. World champion Bill Widnall is making his move in the IOD Class, taking over the lead from Kevin Farrar after another first and fourth yesterday for 9.5 points.
In the J-24s, Sean McDermott of Canada leads the way with 10.5 points while Alistair Evans of the UK is second on 15.75 points.
Racing continues today.
