High winds wreck havoc as etchells race shelved
where local Tim Patton is competing, when the fourth race was cancelled due to high winds.
Thirty knot east-south-east winds prevailed, causing several broken booms and at least two boats sustained damage to their hulls.
Designed for gusts up to 25 knots the Etchells were no match for Mother Nature and after several hours of monitoring the race committee declared a "No-Race''.
This latest development followed a third race, which was ironically postponed for a lack of breeze and race two, where just nine of a 78 strong fleet finished -- the rest were disqualified.
Both races are scheduled to be sailed today with Patton looking to finally get a legitimate completion under his belt, after crashing out of race one and being part of the disqualified skippers the next time out.
