Now in its third year, the Pepperidge Farm-sponsored event has hosted more than 200 swimmers, from Bermuda and abroad, taking place at various venues around the Island.

Other races in the new series are scheduled for June 12, 26, July 10, 24 and August 14.

For the first time, this year's series will feature a category for novices, aimed at encouraging new competitors. Distances for the newcomers will range from half a mile to one and a quarter miles. Those in the advanced category will swim twice that distance.

Prizes are being awarded on a points system -- based upon the number of finishers -- to the top three males and females overall in both the advanced and novice categories.

Additional prizes will go to the top males and females in the following age groups: 14-29, 30-39, 40-49 and 50 and over. Spot prizes of swim caps, baseball caps, polo shirts, T-shirts and pens are also on offer.

Race entry fee is $5 and swimmers should register at the race venue a half hour before the event.

Further information can be obtained from race director Patrick Hackenberg at 295-5063, extension 802.
