Smith, King confirmed as wild cards for Games

Long jumpers Tyrone Smith and Aranxta King have both been confirmed by Bermuda Olympic Association as wild cards for next month's Beijing Games, although neither have reached the qualifying standard.

In the CAC Championships in Colombia last weekend, Smith placed third with a best jump of 7.8 metres, just outside the Olympic mark.

And, along with sprinter Tre Houston, he was due to compete at this week's Junior World Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland, although neither athlete were included in the official start-lists provided on the official IAAF website.

Smith has entered various other European meets before heading to China.

Also at the CACs, Bermuda heptathlon Andrea Jackson placed sixth, despite suffering three fouls in the long jump.

Latroya Darrell placed 12th overall in the triple jump and placed fourth in the high jump while Deon Brangman was tied for sixth in the high jump with a best of 2.05 metres, the same height he achieved at the recent Bermuda National Championships.

Sprinter Xavier James(100 metres) and Michael Donawa (800 metres) failed to advance to the finals in their respective events.

Aaron Evans was unable to compete due to an injury to his foot.
