Snooker tournament underway

Chicago took first day honours with a 6-0 win over the New York Knights. Keith Offord of Chicago trounced John Brunn of New York 93-63 in the first frame and 101-69 in the second.

Jim Nash followed with two easy wins over Chris Dunleavy 57-13, 64-26 while anchor man Ron Byrne, playing in the C position, managed to squeak two black ball games from Richard (Dude) Davis 60-57, 57-53. Chicago also defeated Old Colony Club with Offord getting by Robert Gaglio 2-0 and Nash and Byrne splitting their tickets 1-1 with Dave McLean and S.A. Moniz respectively.

Chicago's third match of the day was against the New York Athletic Club and it was split 3-3. Offord split with newcomer Rolando Aravena 73-48, 28-54 while Nash had two deciders in his match with Isa Ismaili, winning one frame 61-59 and losing the other 66-67, both being black ball nailbiters.

Ron Byrne also split against Mike Sweeney with a win of 62-55 and a loss of 50-58. Sweeney posted the `C' Division's high break of 18 and Offord of Chicago submitted the high break of the day with a 43 against John Brunn of New York.

The matches are being played at the Old Colony Club through Saturday and doors are open to the public at 9 a.m. daily. There is no admission fee.
