Sub Belboda stuns Vasco

Super sub Marvin Belboda came on at the start of the second half with one specific instruction from coach Ray Jones: "Run at 'em!'' Belboda did just that and changed the course of the match as he had a hand in all three second half goals to lead Devonshire Colts into the Martonmere Cup final for the first time in five years at Somerset last night. Colts took a giant step towards upsetting favourites Vasco when they snatched the lead in the 36th minute as Aljame Zuill drove a shot into the bottom far corner.

It was a deserved lead for Colts who had twice hit the woodwork, Zuill putting a shot against the bar just a minute before he found the net.

But as is customary of their play, Vasco fired back in the second half when Dwight Basden laid on a cross from the left and Smith followed up on a rebound to score from close range two minutes after the restart.

However, there would be no come-from-behind win this time as Belboda helped keep Colts in control with some dazzling runs at the Vasco defence.

Colts were back in front in the 52nd minute when Kentoine Jennings knocked Belboda over in the box. Zuill scored his second goal of the match from the penalty spot.

Belboda opened his account five minutes later when Melchisedec Gibbons beat 'keeper Timmy Figureido to a ball inside the box and squared it to Belboda to tap into an open goal. Belboda was booked by referee George O'Brien for jeering the Vasco bench as he celebrated.

Vasco pulled another goal back in the 68th minute when Ascento Russell scored after Troy Hall dropped a corner from Keith Jennings, claiming he had been fouled.

But Colts, and Belboda, were not finished yet and the win was secured with a fourth goal three minutes from time when Belboda ran through, cut inside and curled a left footed shot inside the far post.
