Best is yet to come for Hornets
Dandy Town coach Meschach Wade believes that his side are merely scratching the surface of their talent after they picked up their first points of the new season against Hamilton Parish on Sunday.
Wade coached Parish last term, and with his new club getting nothing out of their first match, he was relieved that he could escape with a 2-0 victory and three crucial points from which to build.
It was also a vital win in the fact that a loss would have pushed Wade's men further behind Parish, who would have remained top of the table with the win.
"It was good for the team to get their first three points," said Wade. "It was an honest performance from the group although there is still a lot of work to do.
"I say this in regards to the new guys coming to the club and the younger guys coming into the first team, we have to find the right blend.
"It was good to beat my former side. They would have liked to beat us as well due to the fact that they would have gotten one over on me.
"But it was good to get the points, and to get off the mark against a former team is good.
"I still respect the club, they have some good players and they will have a good season."
Two first-half strikes by Raymond Beach gave Dandy Town Hornets their first league victory of the season, and with the prolific striker looking to form a formidable partnership with the ever-menacing Antwan Russell, little can be read into the results from the opening fixtures the club have played.
Add to the mix Lashun Dill and Hey Wolfe, two exciting players who have the ability to put in a match-winning performance at any given moment, Wade seems to have all the attacking options any coach would be proud of.
Yet the right blend of youth and experience will be crucial, a balance that hasn't quite been reached yet.
With the champions next on the cards for Town, now would be good as good a time as any to find the right combination.
"It is a blessing to have two players of the calibre of Beach and Russell, but we will still have to have all players on the same page. Antwan is away right now on trials, so we have a few other players stepping into the role.
"Our youngsters are coming along well in the system and our main problem will be striking a balance with the players we have. But this is a good problem, to have a lot of options to choose from.
"I am not worried about PHC. I am more concerned about my players and getting prepared for the next game, whether it is Rangers, Parish, Cougars or Zebras.
"Training is the hard part. Come Sunday you should be out there enjoying the game and atmosphere.
"We are up for the challenge coming up on Sunday."
