Hatherley claims first win of season
Winners Edge rider Mark Hatherley grabbed his first victory of the Conrad’s Mountain Biking Series ahead of series leader Neil de Ste Croix and Neil Lupsic. All category riders contested the same short and spectator friendly twisting loop that placed a premium on quick accelerations at the Pembroke Park on Sunday morning.Hatherley and de Ste Croix went back and forth for the lead until the final lap when the Winners Edge rider was able to get enough of a gap to take the win in the Male ‘A’ race.In Male ‘B’ division, Hans Hirschi finally had his day against his mentor Dexter Swan. With the race lasting just 20 minutes, Swan never found his usual rhythm which has allowed him to win the prior five events in this category.Sarah Bonnett was the lone adult female competitor but raced well against the ‘B’ men. Both Oatley boys, Daniel and Christian, were again victories in their categories, 13-16 and 12 an under, respectively. With a short and less technical race this week, the mountain biking community is gearing up for next Sunday’s Bicycle Works Endurance Race, a four hour team event to be held at Ferry Reach.
