Dear Sir,All roads lead to the National Sports Centre tomorrow where the North Village Rams take on league champions Dandy Town Hornets. This game has the potential to be a ‘cracker’. North Village have a long and rich history of winning cup finals and the FA Cup is no exception, having won it on several occasions although in recent years it appears to have eluded them the last time they lifted the coveted trophy was in 2006.Over the years Village have produced many outstanding footballers Ralph (Gumbo) Bean sr, Wendell (Joe) Trott, the ‘three’ known as the ‘Dill Skills’, Cal, Punchy and Parks, the Calderon twins (Roberts and Richards), Wendell (Woolly) Baxter, Andrew Bascome and Shaun Goater. Now while the Hornets legacy doesn’t go back quite as far, they also have a history of turning out some very good players. Who can forget the Martin brothers, Kirk, Kris and Kent, Walter Musson, Wayne Campbell, Anthony (Toe) Wilson, Pernell Douglas and Darren (Duke) Simons. Now it appears to me that North Village are slowly being superceded by Dandy Town in terms of being the pre-eminent football club on the Island.Their victory in the league this year as well as the constant churning out of professional players such as Nakhi Wells suggests they are looking to replace the Rams dynasty. It will be interesting to see whether Jason, Ralph, Sammy and the rest of the Village team can stop the Dandy Town juggernaut.RECMAN
