Jonte ruled out of cup clash against Crawley
Jonte Smith netted a brace in Metropolitan Police’s 3-0 FA Cup fourth qualifying round conquest of fellow non-league side South Park at the weekend.However, the Bermudian striker is expected to be ruled out of Metro Police’s FA Cup first round clash with League One side Crawley Town next month.Smith is currently on loan to Metro Police from Crawley Town. And, according to rules governing the FA Cup, “the Association will not give permission for players on loan or work experience to play against the lending Club”.Teenaged striker Smith netted in the 48th and 80th minutes in Metro Police’s FA Cup drubbing of South Park at King George’s Field on Saturday.He put the match beyond the hosts’ reach after gaining possession of the ball 25 yards from goal, cutting inside onto his left side and dispatching the ball into the bottom right corner.Smith then doubled his tally in similar fashion ten minutes from full time.Metro Police took the lead for good in the 17th minute through header from Howard Newton who was quickest to react to team mate Jay Lovett’s header that came back off the crossbar.Smith is Metro Police’s current leading goal scorer and has scored ten goals in this season’s FA Cup to place himself in contention for the golden boot for this season’s competition.He inked a one-year professional contract at Crawley Town last April as a reward for a number of outstanding performances with the Red Devils’ Academy and reserve teams.The son of former national cricket skipper Clay Smith banged in 25 goals in all competitions, including a hat-trick against Wycombe Wanderers in the English FA Youth Cup.He netted several goals for the Red Devils’ senior squad during the 2012-13 preseason before being loaned out to Metro Police.
