Fisherman Barnes lands seven wins
Fisherman Scott Barnes landed one of his biggest catches in recent memory during weekend go-kart racing at Southside Raceway.Barnes obliterated the competition on the way to claiming the chequered flag on seven occasions racing in two separate classes. The 27-year old driver recorded an amazing four wins in the 125cc Shifter Class that he currently leads by 55 points over nearest rival Stephen Corrado. And he also had three wins in the TAG (Touch and Go) Senior Class where he trails leader David Barbosa by 53 points.Barnes, who was limited to making cameo appearances during the previous go-kart campaign, summed up the day’s racing as “fun”.“It was just a fun day of racing and the TAG Class was real competitive with myself, David (Barbosa) and Patrick (Ingham), Stephen (Corrado),” he said. “We had four pretty close races and I definitely had to fight for the wins.”That Barnes was able to dominate at the track owed much to mechanic Jason (Skuzzie) North who is current president of Bermuda Karting Club.“Luckily my tuner (North) prepared both of my karts pretty good so they were running great and I did what I do driving and had a bit of fun,” he added.Keeping pace with Barnes in the 125cc championship points standings is Corrado who posted three seconds on the day.Barbosa solidified his lead in the TAG Senior Class championship points standings by recording four podium finishes that included a first, two seconds and a third.Blake Horseman and Owen DeCosta had two wins apiece in the Junior Stock Clone Class (10-15 age group).
