Marshall wins National Championships

Lamont Marshall reigned supreme at the National Cross-Country Championships at St George’s Golf Club on Saturday.Marshall finished the Men’s 8K course in a time of 21 minutes and 35 seconds to beat off competition from Evan Naude (23.27) and Jason Correia (26.22).In the Women’s 6K, Rose-Anna Hoey was victorious in a time of 19.31 with Vivienne Lockhead coming second in 20.43 and Tamika Williams rounding out the top three in 21.02.In the Men’s Masters Division, Jon Smith won in a comfortable time of 20.12, finishing the 6K course ahead of Robert Thomas (21.23).Masters favourite Jay Donawa, who took the wrong course, claimed third spot in a time of 21.57.There was no surprise in the Women’s Masters race with Victoria Fiddick (20.26) securing victory ahead of Karen Smith (20.33) and Martine Brosius-Rothwell (23.51).Like Donawa, Carifta Games bronze medallist Juma Mouchette also took the wrong course but still managed to win the Boys’ Under-20 6K race in 21.57.In the Senior Masters 6K divisions, Carol Griffith grabbed victory in the women’s race, posting a time of 27.28, and Christopher Jones won the men’s event in 21.21.Mike Osborne was the first to finish the Over-60 6K race in a time 22.57.Shuntae Hendrickson (16.02) won the Girls’ Under-20 division, finishing ahead of Rachel Fox (16.29) and Kamryn Minors (20.13).In the Under-14 races, Aaron Jacobs was the fastest male, finishing the 2K course in 9.21, while Lindsay Palmer won the female race in 10.17.Carifta silver medallist Kyrah Scraders (14.28) held off nearest rival Zakkiyah Showers (14.37) in the Girls’ Under-17 4K event.Daniel Oatley (17.5) was crowned champion in the Boys’ Under-17 4K race.Ryan Outerbridge (9.38) claimed victory in the Boy’s Under-12 2K competition while Ashley Irby (9.56) won the girls’ race.In the Under-10 2K events, Selah Tuzo breezed to the finish line in 10.46 in the girls’ race while T’syi Showers won the boys’ event in a time of 10.35.
