Squash trio defeated by Guatemala

The Bermuda squash team have lost to Guatemala in the quarter-finals of the men’s team event at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Cali, Colombia, yesterday.

Noah Browne lost 11-5, 11-5, 11-2 to Franco Enriquez and Nick Kyme was defeated 11-8, 13-11, 11-6 by José Toscano.

The Bermuda team beat St Vincent and Grenadines in their final pool A qualification match in the morning to qualify for the quarter-finals.

Browne defeated Jason Doyle 11-5, 11-4, 11-8, Kyme fought back against Jules Snagg, winning 4-11, 11-7, 11-5, 11-4, 11-6, while Franklin beat Othniel Bailey 11-2, 11-7, 11-4.

Madelyn Moore placed eighth in the women’s 50 metres freestyle final in a time of 26.09sec in Barranquilla yesterday. Hurtado Arcila, Colombia, won the gold medal in 25.11.

Moore qualified for the final by coming third in heat five of the event in 26.38 earlier in the day. Meanwhile, Jesse Washington finished eighth in heat eight of the men’s 50 freestyle in 23.53 in the morning session.

In boxing, Andre Lambe lost to Alexander Rangel, of Colombia, by unanimous decision in the round of 16 of the welterweight division in Barranquilla.

Fellow southpaw Tyler Christopher faces Luis Rodriguez, of Puerto Rico, in the middleweight division tomorrow.

Also tomorrow Ki-Juan Minors will compete in the speed round of the show jumping in Bogotá.
