UBP: Take our Budget advice

Kim Swan, right, with Paula Cox at the Throne Speech last year.

United Bermuda Party leader Kim Swan today urged Premier Paula Cox to take his party’s advice as she prepares to deliver tomorrow’s Budget.Mr Swan said the Island would be in much better shape if Government had heeded the UBP’s financial suggestions over the past few years. And he hopes Ms Cox will tomorrow unveil plans mirroring some of Shadow Finance Minister Bob Richards’ suggestions designed to increase revenue by making international business more competitive.“Our team will work diligently to reinforce the need to work toward basic objectives Mr Richards has laid down in recent months,” said Mr Swan in a statement.“Virtually everyone in the Country is aware that Bermuda is in the grip of its most serious economic challenge in many generations, and that the Government’s spendthrift ways, enabled since 2004 by the Premier/Finance Minister, have made the situation much worse.“The Budget tomorrow must lay down a clear plan to get the Island back on track; to restore income, grow jobs, impose spending discipline and restore confidence not just in the Government but in Bermuda.”
