Ministries set for change after Cabinet shake-up

Justice Minister Michael Scott and Kim Wilson Minister of Economy, Trade and Industries Ministry are to trade Cabinet seats, as more details of Premier Paula Cox’s Cabinet shake-up emerges, The Royal Gazette has learned.A formal announcement is expected to be made today or tomorrow in time for the start of the new parliamentary year. Ms Cox’s shake-up now impacts at least four Ministers and one Senator.Estates Minister Neletha Butterfield and Minister of Transport Terry Lister were both given their walking papers this week, as was Senator LaVerne Furbert. And speculation abounds that Ms Cox may be reconfiguring Ministries again by doubling up on ministerial duties, particularly Tourism and Transport.For Minister Butterfield it is a double blow. She was defeated by challenger Senator David Burt in the contest to be selected as her branch’s choice to run for parliament in the next General Election.The Premier had promised some “bold steps” and to “shake it up a bit” in a brief speech to party supporters at the Progressive Labour Party’s Annual Banquet on Saturday night.But Bermuda will be treated to changes on the opposition ranks too. With two of their Senators heading out the door, following One Bermuda Alliance Leader Craig Cannonnier’s victory at yesterday’s Devonshire South Central by-election. It has also been announced that Senator Kathy Michelmore will be leaving the Island.
