Monday’s town hall postponed

Government has postponed Monday night’s town hall meeting on the Throne Speech due to a “conflicting national event”.The event is believed to be the Bermuda vs Barbados World Cup qualifying football game, though it wasn’t possible to confirm that with the Department of Communication and Information (DCI) yesterday.A statement issued on Thursday by DCI said an announcement would be made once a new date and time had been chosen, adding: “We apologise for any inconvenience the rescheduling may have caused.”The meeting was to have been held from 6.30pm to 8.30pm in the Number Six Shed on Front Street, with Cabinet Ministers fielding queries from the public on their ministries.Premier Paula Cox said in a press release last week she wanted to “encourage as many residents as possible to come and hear about the tangible solutions that each of their Ministers is enacting, which are aimed at strengthening not only our economy, but the social fabric of our community”.She added: “Each person’s opinion is valuable and I’m hoping people will attend the meeting to hear about how they can be a part of the solution.”The Bermuda vs Barbados game is at 8pm at the National Sports Centre on Monday. Tickets are available from www.bermudafa.com.
