PACE ‘housekeeping’ changes passed

Bermuda’s lawmakers lost no time in passing housekeeping amendments to the Police and Criminal Evidence Amendment Act.Michael Scott, in his capacity as junior Minister for Justice led the bill through the House of Assembly.“The overall intent is to ensure that law enforcement authorities are afforded reasonably sufficient time to process persons arrested as well as for the gathering of evidence incidental to the arrest,” Minister Scott said.“For example, the Bill clarifies that the PACE detention clock stops when a detainee is released on bail and is restarted when the detainee answers bail.”
