Knock it off, Cannonier tells Cox attackers
Premier Paula Cox, who often faces strong criticism on the comments sections of local websites has got some backing from an unlikely source Opposition Leader Craig Cannonier. The One Bermuda Alliance leader has called on commenters to stop making disparaging remarks about Ms Cox.The appeal was posted on his Facebook page this week.“It has come to my attention that blogs are being used to depict the Premier of Bermuda, the Hon Paula Cox, in an undignified, even degrading, light,” wrote Mr Cannonier.“While the practice may not be widespread, I am calling on people who are doing these things to knock it off. Ms Cox is the Premier and the office must be respected.“While we understand the intense feelings elections can generate, there is no excuse to engage in unseemly attacks. They serve no purpose but to drive people apart, and that is the opposite of the direction this Country needs to go.“I urge people to conduct themselves with civility and respect. Let’s all be the change for the better.”The post prompted a mixed reaction from bloggers.Wrote one: “Hats off to you for being a voice of respect and unity in your Country.”Said another: “Respect, we all want it, why can’t we all show it to others?”
