Adderley’s vision for Pembroke West

Independent candidate Erwini Adderley

Independent candidate Erwin Adderley was ommitted from The Royal Gazette’s Pembroke West profile of candidates on Monday.Below is Mr Adderley’s biogaphy and an outline of what his aim is for the people of constituency 19.Bringing back neighbourhood watch and park safety in Pembroke West will be the focus of the veteran politician’s campaign to get elected to represent the constituency.Mr Adderley, who lives in the area, will challenge sister Jeanne Atherden of the OBA and the PLP’s Vincent Ingham. He previously won the seat in 1998 as a member of the UBP, represented the area for six years and implemented a neighbourhood watch in which police would patrol the area on a regular basis. The programme will be put forward to come back again should Mr Adderley be elected back to the seat.“While water access is a big issue, the bigger one is the policing and crime in the area as well as the parks,” he said. “At one point in time there was a great deal of concern about the crime and unsocial activities going on, and we established a neighbourhood watch that would entail two police officers patrolling the area.“When the constables were patrolling the area, those who were of bad nature thought twice because you didn’t know when they would be coming around.”With more than 60 percent of the constituency residents aged 45 or over, security and safety in the nearby parks is another concern, with parents being reluctant to go into Admiralty House Park and Spanish Point Park.Lighting in the parks to help residents use the facilities without fear will be one method used to ease fears, along with renovating the Admiralty House ballroom at the top of the property.“All areas of Pembroke West should be safe for everyone to use, from the basketball and tennis court at PCC right the way down to Spanish Point Park so everyone feels safe.”Mr Adderley had enjoyed a 22-year career as Director of Planning before he entered politics in 1997 when he was elected as MP for the then dual seat constituency Pembroke West. He represented the area until the 2003 election when he attempted to unseat Neletha Butterfield in Pembroke West Central but lost.Former Transport Minister Mr Adderley was approved as a UBP candidate for Pembroke West in 2010, but decided to run as an independent following the founding of the OBA by a majority of the UBP parliamentarians. He runs Erwin P Adderley Associates Ltd, a planning, design and development consultancy business. Mr Adderley decided to contest the general election as an independent candidate, while insisting he is committed to core principles of the UBP.He is 71, married to Nathalie and has two step children and four grandchildren.
