PLP delegates conference to take place tomorrow
The Progressive Labour Party will host its 59th Annual Delegates Conference tomorrow.
The event will have the theme The Power of One and is expected to include several speeches and performances.
Dawn Simmons, the party’s chairwoman, said: “The Power of One reminds us that, while individual contributions may seem small, together they create powerful change.
“Every member and every supporter of the PLP plays a crucial role in driving the party forward and building a fairer Bermuda for all of us.”
The conference will start with a welcome from Ms Simmons and a prayer led by the Reverend Ruth VanLowe Smith followed by performances from the Kingdom Mimes church group.
It will also include a special tribute to the late Glenn Woods, a longstanding dedicated PLP member known for his contributions to the party and community.
The Reverend Nicholas Tweed, of St Paul’s African Methodist Episcopal Church and a member of the People’s Campaign, will serve as the conference’s keynote speaker.
He is expected to share his insights on unity and community empowerment.
Tinée Furbert, the Minister of Youth, Social Development and Seniors, will speak on the major problems that plague Bermuda’s young people and seniors, as well as the PLP’s efforts to fix them.
The conference will also have a “Branches in the Community” segment to put a spotlight on smaller PLP affiliate groups and the work they do to help their communities.
David Burt, the Premier and Minister of Finance, will give an address to end the conference, which will outline the party’s vision and emphasise the importance of collective action in addressing Bermuda’s challenges.
The conference will be hosted by Nadanja Bailey and feature performances from the Blues Beat Band and Septimus.
It will be held in the Centennial Hall of St Paul AME Church on Victoria Street in Hamilton from 7pm to 9.30pm.
The PLP invited “all Bermudians to join in and engage with the discussions, performances and reflections” at the conference.
