Ministry of Justice permanent secretary announced
An experienced manager who held public service leadership roles in Trinidad & Tobago has been appointed as the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Justice.
David Roberts took up the post on May 1 and will work under the policy direction of Kim Wilkerson, the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice.
He will be responsible for providing strategic leadership in the ministry, the Government said.
A statement added: “He will also serve as a principal adviser to the Minister of Justice, ensuring that the ministry’s priorities are advanced with efficiency, integrity and a commitment to service excellence.
“Mr Roberts brings to the post more than two decades of distinguished executive management experience, with a career spanning leadership roles across the public service in Trinidad & Tobago.
“Most recently, he served as Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sport and Community Development, where he provided strategic oversight of four state entities and led key initiatives to enhance operational effectiveness.”
The Government said that Mr Roberts’s prior appointments included Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister, for communications, and chief executive of TTT Limited — a state-owned broadcast, production and transmission service provider in Trinidad & Tobago.
At the television company, he was said to have driven “operational reforms, strengthened governance frameworks and increased organisational performance”.
The Government said: “In addition to his professional accomplishments, Mr Roberts has demonstrated a strong commitment to civic engagement, having served as a global ambassador for the International Business Innovation Association and as a member of the Trinidad & Tobago Transparency Institute.
“Mr Roberts is deeply committed to advancing the ministry’s mission of promoting a modern, accessible and effective justice system for Bermuda.”
The justice permanent secretary role became vacant upon the retirement of Gina Hurst-Maybury, a government spokeswoman said.
Marva O’Brien acted in the position for a number of months before Mr Roberts’s appointment.
