Fresh Fire aims to rejuvenate women

Capri Astwood and Mykiee Jones have united to create a new ministry experience. They have invited inspirational women to participate and launch their first weekend event, Fresh Fire Weekend, through their ministry, The Women’s Well Experience, next Friday and Saturday, May 3 and 4.

“The Women’s Well Experience is a safe place for women to meet Jesus, connect transparently with other women, and experience wholeness in their walk with Christ,” Mrs Astwood said.

The two women’s lives collided, as members of the ministry musical group Last Call, forming a friendship that has navigated becoming newlyweds, new mothers, and now a new ministry together.

Discussing how The Women’s Well Experience came to be, Mrs Astwood said: “Mykiee and I were fasting when the Lord spoke to us about what was next. We were both given a vision of a gathering of women of faith coming together in a safe place to work on things all women experience.

“When we further established The Women’s Well Experience, what came out of that time of fasting was the women at the well story in John 14. In that story, a woman is dipping water in the well, and Jesus meets her there and tells her everything about herself.

“He wasn’t doing it shamefully; He just did it to say I know you, and I know the things that you hide, but I still love you, and I still want to offer you a well where you can drink from where you will never be thirsty again, where you will never want for anything again.

“So, when we understood this story, we wanted to bring that experience to the women of Bermuda. That is how the name The Women’s Well Experience came about.”

Mrs Astwood continued: “The Fresh Fire experience came out of the scripture Romans 12:11-13. We understand that many women are experiencing burnout coming out of a pandemic. And burnout can manifest in so many different ways.

“Some people turn to Christ, some people turn away from Him, and there have been a lot of transitions that women have experienced, whether that be becoming new mums, changing jobs, or becoming unemployed.

“Some people have moved country, some have lost loved ones, there have been so many major transitions over this period, and I believe God was speaking to us to address that major transition and that burnout we’ve seen so many women experience.

“So, the Fresh Fire Weekend is a chance for women to come and be filled, refreshed, and get that fresh fire the Lord is pouring out on them.”

Mrs Jones added: “At the event, women will get real women, faith, and conversation. In layman’s terms, it is a women’s conference, but we wanted to debunk the stigma of a women’s conference, and the tradition of the church structure and conferences.

“We wanted to provide an environment where you can put your lip gloss on, get your nails done, throw on a cute dress, and do all the trendy things in a wholesome environment.

“One of the things we like to say is this is the one environment in which you can bring your nana, auntie, little sister, cousin, and mama.

“Even if they don’t profess Jesus as their Lord and Saviour, they will still be comfortable entering that environment. Once they get there, they will see, ‘You guys are having the time of your life; you’re dressed cute’, they’ll find out it’s because we love Jesus.

“We want that to be the common ground. We endeavour to bring an environment that knocks down all the barriers and traditions we tend to put up and can separate us.”

Women can expect fresh fellowship and “real conversations” when they participate in the weekend’s events, including a prayer hour on the Friday evening, a panel discussion on the Saturday, and a worship and word experience that Saturday night – inviting special guest, Pastor Phineka Friend, as the keynote speaker.

“It was very much aligned that Pastor Phineka would be the one for our first event,” Mrs Jones said. “She is a good merge of both of us personally, professionally, and spiritually.

“She is an entrepreneur and a pastor but extremely trendy and down to earth. If you are a single mother, she can tell you that story. If you are married, have four kids, run a business, have money, or not. she can tell you that story. She is a woman with so many different streams in her testimony that speak to all women in different walks of life, which was pivotal.”

Fresh Fire Weekend is a ticketed event. In addition to general entry, there is a VIP option. This includes the TWWE Mixer event reminiscent of a brunch-like experience: “We just want to have fun, get together, have some dancing, giveaways, some games, laugh and joke together, and enjoy each other’s presence,” they said.

Mrs Jones added: “All the proceeds from the event go to charity. What we are doing is for God to be glorified and to give back to our community. All the proceeds will be donated to the Gina Spence Productions’ Champions Programme, which is the only programme in Bermuda that services children who have been left behind due to gun violence.

“That demographic is very specific and special, and funding is needed for charities in Bermuda, so why not give for a cause while we celebrate the cause, which is Jesus.”

Mrs Astwood added: ”We hope that women can leave that place with a new friend, leave that place with a fresh perspective of who the Lord is and who He can be to all of us.”

The title sponsor for the event is Ambiance Bermuda.
