A leap of faith across the world
For many, the pressures of hustle culture and the daily grind can leave them feeling stuck with a deep desire for change. While countless people feel this internal tug, only a few take the risky leap of faith required to transform their lives. Bermudian Kamille Minors is one of them.
She took a bold step – moving across the world to Australia – in pursuit of spiritual growth, adventure, and inner peace.
Formerly a veterinary nurse at Ettrick Animal Hospital, Ms Minors described her life in Bermuda as “pretty structured and busy” with a demanding career and a full social life. Onlookers may have assumed she was content. But inside, she felt a persistent nudge – an invitation to something more.
“Although, for years, my life in Bermuda was somewhat set, I was not very content with the life I was living,” she shared. “Yes, I was doing positive things and making a difference in some of the lives around me. However, I felt stuck, overwhelmed, and I didn’t feel like I was doing anything significant for myself.
“Something needed to change, but I wasn’t quite sure exactly what that change should be – whether it was a career change, a change of scenery, or even a mindset shift. As the need for change grew heavier on my heart, I knew it had to happen sooner rather than later.”
Australia had been on her radar as a travel destination to visit a friend, but one spontaneous moment changed everything.
“One day, while talking to her about travel plans, I just blurted out, ‘Why don’t I just move there?’ It sounded like a joke, but I was serious. For the first time in a long time, I felt like this was exactly what I needed to do.”
Initially, she considered applying for veterinary work in Australia, but felt an urge to step away from her current career path. A dinner conversation with friends introduced her to the concept of the “Working Holiday Visa” – a unique opportunity that allows travellers to work and vacation simultaneously.
“I looked into it, but at the time, the age limit was 30, and I was no longer eligible. I started to reconsider the veterinary route, but something about it did not sit right in my spirit.”
Then, a twist of fate: during a separate conversation, she learnt that the age limit had recently been extended to 35 for British passport holders.
“A huge wave of peace came over me. I knew that moving to Australia was the right decision because everything was falling into place. Other details started aligning too, and the entire transition became smoother.”
The Covid-19 pandemic, paradoxically, became a time of clarity for her.
“During lockdown, I was considered an essential worker, so I still worked, but with reduced hours,” she said.
“Although it was a hard time globally, I finally had a better work-life balance. I had more time to cook, clean, exercise, and read. I was taking better care of myself and could show up for others more fully.
“Once lockdown ended and things went back to ‘normal’, I started to feel the pressure again. I became depressed, and I knew I needed a lifestyle like the one I had during Covid – one with balance.”
Her decision to move was deeply spiritual. Kamille sees her move not as an escape but as an act of trust and surrender.
“At first, it was just a dream. I had so much going on in Bermuda, I wasn’t sure if I could really take this leap of faith. But that’s exactly what faith is – doing something without knowing the outcome.
“My faith in God and the belief that He will provide really helped me make the final decision. I didn’t know if it was God’s will at first, but everything just kept falling into place.”
Australia has become more than just a new home – it’s a sacred space of growth.
“This experience has shown me that I’m capable of more than I thought,” she said. “It’s helped me spiritually, emotionally, and mentally. I’ve learnt to worry less and trust more.
“Being in a new environment, not knowing what’s next, has pushed me to rely on God in new ways. Things have worked out in ways I could not have imagined.”
She’s also grown in her appreciation of nature. “There are so many natural wonders here in Australia. I’ve gained a deeper admiration for God’s creation, and it’s sparked my desire to see more of the world.”
When asked what she would say to someone feeling spiritually stuck or afraid to make a change, she offered this: “If you’re feeling stuck, it’s better to take the risk to change than to stay stuck and not change at all.
“No matter how old you are, it’s never too late to change your life for the better. This season has taught me to slow down and trust the process.
“Eventually, the answers will come, but it’s important to be present in the journey. I’ve grown in my desire to understand my purpose, but I’ve also learnt to be patient and enjoy life while I wait for it to be revealed.”
