Mounties take on Bermuda select sides

The Mount Allison University men’s rugby team, from Sackville New Brunswick, Canada, are in midst of their tour of the Island.

The 25-strong team, which arrived on the Island last weekend, were beaten by a Bermuda select side 19-17 at the National Sports Centre at the weekend.

As well as played matches against local sides, Mount Allison’s players will be visiting schools to recruit, train and conduct rugby clinics.

While on the Island, the University will be honouring some prominent Bermudians who have been outstanding Mount Allison alumni for many years.

Currently, there are 13 Bermudians studying at Mount Allison, which has an enrollment of just over 2,500 students.

Second-year student Matthew Ranson is the lone Rugby Mountie from Bermuda who will be revisiting his home in Somerset.

Former coach of the year, Mountie mentor Yves Pellerin, said: “The Bermudians have been very kind to us. We continue to enjoy strong relations between Bermuda and the MtA community.

“We thank the alumni, our hosts, and all of the gracious Bermudians who have worked so hard to make our trip a positive experience.

The team remain on the Island until Saturday.
