The budding talents of some of Bermuda’s most promising runners will once again be on display during the 25th Heritage Day Junior Classic.

Organisers are looking forward to another exciting competition and anticipate a good turnout for the race, which is contested over the last two miles of the Bermuda Half-Marathon Derby course.

“West End Athletic Club expects up to 75 athletes in this year's Junior Classic and encourages the public to come early and voice their support for Bermuda’s youth,” race official Anthony Raynor told The Royal Gazette.

“West End Athletic Club wishes all of Bermuda a joyful Bermuda Day.”

Participants will start in the vicinity of the Supermart on Front Street after the Sinclair Packwood Memorial Race participants clear the area and will finish at Bernard Park before the arrival of the Bermuda Half- Marathon Derby winners.

The race consists of four categories for boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 17, with the top three finishers in each category receiving awards. Medals and official photos will be presented to all participants.

Tajai Goater won last year’s Heritage Day Junior Classic followed by Cameron Adkins in second and Carifta Games medal winner J’uza James in third.

Jaeda Grant was the first female finisher, with Azari Jones taking second and Kelise Wade rounding off the podium in.

Wade achieved an impressive double after also finishing as the top female, and second overall, in the Sinclair Packwood Memorial Youth Race held earlier in the dar.

The Heritage Day Junior Classic was inaugurated in 1997 and has been run annually, with the exception of 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid pandemic.

The event has contributed to the development of the island’s athletes with Bermuda’s first Olympic champion Flora Duffy and race-record holder Henry Talbot among its notable competitors
