Some of Bermuda’s most promising young triathletes travelled to the United States to compete last weekend.

Among hugely competitive fields with some top US talent on display in the East Coast Triathlon Festival in Richmond, Virginia, the squad performed with credit in a number of divisions.

Dylan Eiselt picked up a bronze medal in the Youth Elite Male race after completing a swim of 375 metres, a 10k bike ride and a 2.5k run in 29min 37.59sec. Eiselt came out of the water in 24th place before producing the fastest bike ride and the third-fastest run leg in the 61-strong field.

Eiselt finished ahead of Rory Shepherd, who crossed the line in fourth position just seven seconds behind his Bermuda team-mate.

Sanchez Smith (twentieth), Jasper Lau (31st), Spencer Haldeman (35th), Lucas Bule (39th), Jacob Leclerc (46th) and Dominic Wright (49th) also competed in the race.

In the Junior Elite Male category, Jacob Wright finished the 750m swim, the 20k bike leg and the 5k run in 1:01:11.31, which was good enough to finish 37th of the 74 competitors.

Sofia Leclerc finished seventeenth of the 42 athletes in the junior elite female division in a time of 35:25.94. She finished four places ahead of Zara Bule, who completed the course in 36:11.64.
