Watch: Newport Bermuda race documentary shown on island
A sneak peek of a new documentary series about the 2024 Newport to Bermuda Race was shown at the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club on Thursday night.
The private screening of Windblown brought together invited guests from Bermuda’s business, cultural, and maritime communities for a 55-minute screening of the series, followed by a Q&A discussion with members of the production team.
Windblown offers a cinematic and immersive portrayal of the 636-mile offshore race from Newport, Rhode Island to Bermuda — widely regarded as one of the most demanding ocean races in the world.
The series captures the intersection of history, science, and human endurance, placing viewers directly into the high-stakes environment of open-ocean sailing.
Filmed during the 2024 race, the production team captured nearly 3,000 hours of footage, including unprecedented moments at sea that bring to life the intensity, unpredictability, and beauty of the Atlantic crossing.
The series highlights not only the technical and strategic elements of the race, but also the deeply personal stories of the sailors who undertake it.
The series is led by US-based executive producer Benjamin Ringe, with Caroline Desmarais serving as co-executive producer, Bermuda.
Positioned for global distribution, when completed Windblown could appear on one of the primary streamers, with the project representing a rare opportunity to showcase Bermuda on a global stage through premium documentary storytelling, offering international audiences a powerful lens into the island’s maritime heritage and natural environment.
Further screenings of the series are expected to take part in New York and Newport.
