Camp will expose players to the best of both worlds
Bermuda Brazilian Football School (BBFS) CEO Cal Blankendal is looking forward to see how the Island’s youngsters get on at the ‘Best of Both Worlds’ football camp next month. The camp, which will incorporate the samba style of the Brazilians with the ‘total football’ of the Dutch, will be held at the BAA Field, with Soccer ID, the leading under-19s tournament in the world, partnering the BBFA in the venture.SoccerID have the world’s number one under-19s club tournament, with previous winners including Chelsea, Ajax, Galatasaray, and Gremio of Brazil. This year’s edition of the competition includes Tottenham, Ajax and Barcelona. For Blankendal, who has been an integral part in the BBFA infrastructure, it is a memorable moment with the camp being the brainchild of his extensive work at the Leaders of Football symposium as Chelsea FC last year.“The general idea of this camp is to combine the individual artistic and technical ability of samba football with the more orchestrated and calculated form of ‘total football’,” said Blankendal.“This will be the first camp to combine Dutch and Brazilian techniques and it all came about during my attendance at the Leaders in Football symposium which took place in October of last year, at Chelsea in London.“I met Arnoud Lips at the end of the conference and we exchanged contact details as we are both Dutch citizens.“Upon my return I proposed the camp to BBFS president Dennis Brown who embraced the concept immediately.”The camp will run from February 7 to the 11 from 9am to 3pm, at a price of $160, and will feature coaches with UEFA ‘A’, ‘B’ and a female ‘C’ licensed coach that will put the youngsters through their paces.Blankendal admitted the experience of attending the symposium had opened up new avenues such as the ‘Best of both Worlds’ camp and hoped the community will come out and support it.“All camp attendees can look forward to receiving quality coaching from two UEFA ‘A’ coaches, two UEFA ‘B’ coaches and one UEFA ‘C’ women’s academy coach,” said Blankendal.“These coaches have worked for AJAX, the Dutch KNVB and also manage their own respective clubs youth programmes.“In the morning the atten dees will receive firsthand experience of ‘total football’ and in the afternoon coach Brown and the BBFS staff, will provide the Brazilian Skills training.“As with all BBFS camps, there will be a core focus on Life Skills on each day for 20-30 minutes.”To register for the ‘Best of both Worlds’ camp visit www.bermudabfs.com or info[AT]bermudafs.com.
