Season defining month ahead for Colts

High scorer: Jahron Dickinson

St George's Colts coach Richard Todd has urged his team to continue with their superb form as they head into a season defining month after completing the derby double over East End rivals St David's at the weekend.Jahron Dickinson bagged a brace while David Signor and Phillip Anderson were also on target in Colts' thrashing of their neighbours, with the win putting them in fourth place, nine points behind leaders North Village.Todd believes his side have already exceeded expectations in their first season back in the Bermuda Football Association's top-flight but insists they still have plenty to achieve before the campaign closes.“It was a derby win and derby wins are always pleasing to both the club and fans,” said Todd. “It was played in a good nature, and for me it was more important to keep the momentum going from the first half of the season, so it was a good three points for us. The first half was very slow for us, I thought we played to their pace of the game and in the second half we picked it up a bit and got the four goals.“We have picked up where we left off in the first half of the season and Sunday's result took us over the 20 point mark so that's safe ground and we can not worry about relegation.“Now we have to make sure the players don't become complacent, we're still in the FA Cup and the Friendship so let's look to win something.“To the players I tell them that we have exceeded everyone's expectations of us so there isn't any pressure on us.”Colts have upcoming league fixtures against Village, Boulevard and Dandy Town, while having FA Cup and Friendship dates against Devonshire Cougars crunched in between.Todd admits the thought of making a run for the league title has not crossed his mind even though Colts still have to play both Town and Village.More importantly for the boss is to add to the Friendship Trophy the club won in 1996 still Colts' only major piece of silverware to date.“We play Cougars in both competitions and know that they have fallen flat in their league chase and will fully focus on the cup games, so to me it's a good challenge and again there's no pressure,” he said. “We haven't thought about making a run for the league, we just want to get results against those teams above us while staying ahead of those behind us and find a level of consistency.“Looking at the schedule we still have to play Village, Boulevard and Dandy Town in the league while they also have to play each other and PHC, so February will be a defining month for us in both the league and also cup competitions.“We can define or impact the league table, but for us the goal is to get points off off every team we play, and make sure our opponents never have an easy game when they play us.”
