Ming warns Hornets not to take Rangers lightly
Damon Ming says Dandy Town must draw on their reputation as strong finishers as the business end of the season approaches with the club still in contention for league and cup honours. The Hornets successfully chased down North Village to claim last season’s Premier Division title and can advance into the semi-finals of the FA Cup if they beat Southampton Rangers at the Southampton Oval on Sunday.Currently third in the Premier Division table, Hornets will start Sunday’s cup tie as the heavy favourites although Ming believes Hornets must brace themselves for a stern test against Keith Jennings’ unpredictable Rangers side.Rangers thrashed St. David’s 4-0 in the league a fortnight ago, but have also found themselves on the receiving end of some hefty defeats this term and are languishing just above the relegation zone.Ming, however, knows the do-or-die elimination format of FA Cup football can be a lottery at times and has warned his teammates not to take struggling Rangers lightly.“The FA Cup’s a one game thing and you either win or you lose,” said Ming. “We’re looking to still be in the competition at the end of game.”The FA cup looks like Hornets’ best chance of adding to their well-stocked trophy cabinet this season, although Ming still believes they can claw back the six points they are adrift of league leaders Village.“We’re in a good position to contend for the FA Cup trophy but the league is not over yet,” he said.“Everyone’s still fighting for different reasons whether it be at the top of the table or at the bottom.”Hornets have defeated Village three times already this season in all competitions, and Ming believes they could replicate those type of performances consistently, it would be the men from St. John’s Field who would be sitting top of the table.“If we played like we did against Village every week I don’t think anyone could beat us,” said the Bermuda international.“However, there have been times when we have lowered our level of play against the lesser teams and that’s been frustrating.“But we will just keep on building because Dandy Town are usually strong during the second half of the season and there’s still plenty to play for.”Rangers take on Hornets at Southampton Oval on Sunday.
