Lambe and Wells link-up falls short
Nahki Wells has revealed that Reggie Lambe was close to joining him at Carlisle United when the Ipswich Town midfielder was sent out on loan.Lambe left Ipswich on loan last week to gain first team experience at fellow English League One side Bristol Rovers until the end of the season.Although Lambe, 20, didn’t end up linking up with his Bermuda international team-mate at United, the pair remain in close contact, said Wells.“I speak to Reggie and Quadir (Maynard) all the time to see how they are making out and vice versa,” said Wells. “You never know how the sport will go, and maybe next year I can play with one of them.“It was almost possible that Reggie came over here on loan for the rest of the season but it didn’t work out and he went to Bristol Rovers but you never know what the future holds so we will see.”Wells’ five-month contract expires at the end of the season but the former Dandy Town striker is still unsure whether United will hand him a new deal.He said: “Obviously this isn’t the best time to be talking about a new contract but I know sooner or later I will have to find out if I’m staying or going elsewhere. I’m just working as hard as I can every session so hopefully it works all out. If it don’t it won’t be the end of the world and I would have to move on.“The experience is great so far, obviously there are places I can still improve on but I’m really enjoying this opportunity.”Wells is bidding to become the third Bermuda player to appear at Wembley, by taking part in this weekend’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final against Brentford. Compatriots Shaun Goater and Kyle Lightbourne appeared at Wembley for Manchester City and Stoke, and the ex-Bermuda Hogges player hopes to follow in their footsteps.“Things are going well and I am hopeful of getting into the team to play at Wembley on Sunday,” said Wells, who has made four first team appearances this season.“I have a good chance of being in the side, I’m currently in the A team but we will all know the side to play today and I am hoping to be in the 16.“We played a reserve game and won 7-0, although I didn’t manage to get on the scoresheet I played well and almost scored a few times but was unlucky.”Adjusting to life in England has not been easy for Wells but he’s determined to make the most of his opportunity and believes he will make his mark in English football.“I do miss being home and playing week in, week out but I am at a higher level and I know I have to earn the right to get on the pitch,” Wells said.“At home I can always play, regardless of who I play for and this is the way the bigger leagues are. You can’t just walk into a team and you have to have downs in order to progress.“Right now I may not be a player that has a major impact on the team and it takes time to adjust to the game here, but I am convinced I can be one of those players and after a year or two I can be a dominant player in the league.”
