Rams dedicate title in memory of Robinson
North Village have dedicated their Premier Division title win to their former team-mate Randy Robinson who died last week. The newly crowned champions have been struggling to come to terms with the death of their popular team-mate (pictured), who was shot dead in North Pembroke on Thursday evening.Shervin Dill, the club’s president, said Robinson’s effervescent nature had brought humour and fun into the Village dressing room and that his on-field contribution would not be forgotten.“Randy’s contribution will always be remembered and appreciated. Please allow me this opportunity to dedicate this year’s Premier League title to the memory of Randy Robinson,” said Dill.“His smile was special, he was the type of person that could capture your heart without saying a word and he always brought humour and fun to the team.“His presence in the team and especially his smile will be sadly missed by us all.”Dill described Robinson’s death as a terrible tragedy as he declared his deepest sympathies and condolences to the family of the 22-year-old.“As president and on behalf of the executive, management, members and Randy’s team-mates, I would like to extend our most sincere condolences to the family of Randy Robinson.“Know that you are in our prayers and that you have the full support of the North Village Community Club during this time of bereavement,” he said.“As mentioned by our club captain Sammy DeGraff (in Saturday’s Royal Gazette) we were in total shock having heard the news of this terrible tragedy. Randy played an important role in helping us to achieve our Premier League championship title this season but now his presence is but a memory.”Robinson, the son of former Village player Randy Spence, was a first team regular this season despite not being fully recovered from a knee injury.A minute’s silence was held in his memory before Village’s match against Fire FC at BAA Field in the Corona League at the weekend. The Rams take on Robinson’s former club Devonshire Cougars in Sunday’s Friendship Trophy final at the National Sports Centre. Kick off is at 4 pm.
