Final dedicated to father of gun victim

North Village will be looking to win the Bistro Cup in their first season in the Corona League tonight when they play Lock ‘N’ Key at BAA Field.The match is being dedicated to Randy Spence whose son Randy Robinson was shot dead last week. Spence, will skipper the Village team.Village have enjoyed an encouraging debut in the league, finishing the season in the top half of the table.The experienced squad boasts a wealth of seasoned veterans including local legends Shaun Goater and Kyle Lightbourne, as well as Elliott Jennings, Dwayne Adams, Dwayne Leverock, Kevin Jennings, Nakia Smith, Mark Trott, and Damon Wade to name just a few.Coach Armell Thomas says he is pleased to have reached the final and will be looking to get the club’s first piece of silverware in honour of the club’s late team-mate.“It would be very special for us to get a piece of silverware for the first season in the Corona League,” said Thomas. “This cup will be in honour of our skipper Randy Spence and his son Randy.“After the tragedy . . . it has shaken up the football community in Bermuda especially North Village.“Skipper Randy wanted to play last Friday night to keep his mind busy which I left it up to him.“The skipper had one of his better games I’ve seen him play so far this year. He will be skippering the team tonight and I ask for North Village fans and players to come out and show your support to Randy.“After consulting with the skipper about the team selection, he was quite confident that the team can win tonight.”Thomas revealed that the celebration, should they come out victorious, will be different from most, with the side scheduled to go to a hotel and discuss the issues that are plaguing the Island.“Once the game is done we are going to celebrate differently then normal,” added Thomas.“We are going to one of the hotel rooms with our coolers and we are going to unite and communicate like brothers.“We will also be looking for solutions to resolve the gun violence that’s happening in our communities, Island, and country. “ Kick-off for the final is 7 pm.
