Veteran players raise cash for charity
Some of the Island’s former top players are taking part in the second annual corporate Charity Football Tournament at BFA Field.This year’s participants include Belco, The Corporation of Hamilton, Bermuda Fire Service, Marine and Ports, Ministry of Public Works, HSBC, Ministry of Education and Telco.The tournament started on March 28, and will end with a prize giving on April 28.This year’s recipients include Big Brothers and Sisters of Bermuda and the Mirrors Programme.More than 150 players are playing in the event including well known local veterans Blenn Bean, Shannon Burgess, Jamel Warren, Mark (Beaver) Ray, Vic Ball, Tokia Russell, Kennedy Wainwright, Marlon Lindsay, Anthony Manders, Kentoine Jennings, Quincy Aberdeen, Paul Cann, Kofi Dill, Omar Shakir and Khari Sharrieff.One of the organisers, Sakina Darrell, said: “The organising body would like to the thank Larry Mussenden and David Subair of the Bermuda Football Association for sponsoring the field, Stuart Crockwell for organising the referees for each match and John Morley of Barritts for supplying water for each game.“Additionally, we would like to encourage the community to come out and support their respective teams in this admission free event and enjoy a bit of old school reggae played by Troy Joseph.“With the increase in participating teams this year, we’re confident in the growth of this annual event and as such welcome all future interested corporate teams to contact any member of the organising committee.For more details contact Kennedy Wainwright (kwainwright[AT]belco.bm), Vic Ball (vball[AT]gov.bm), Damon Smith (damon.a.smith[AT]hsbc.bm), Blenn Bean (blbean[AT]gov.bm) or Shervin Dill (sldill[AT]btc.bm).
