Angelo’s return to Town ‘too good to turn down’

Angelo Simmons has revealed his desire to win trophies was the main reason behind his decision to leave Boulevard and rejoin his boyhood club Dandy Town.Simmons missed the transfer deadline but is in line to make his Hornets debut against Robin Hood in the Premier Division at St John’s Field next weekendThe 24-year-old said the lure of playing alongside local leading lights Damon Ming, Raymond Beach and Jamal Swan was good too an opportunity to turn down.“I used to play for Dandy Town as a youngster and I felt it was time to go back home,” said the winger.“My family support Town and I always wanted to play alongside my cousin Packy (Raymond Beach) and their other top players like Jamal Swan, Damon Ming and Heys Wolfe. Hopefully we can win some trophies this season.“The BFA are still sorting out my paperwork but I should be able to play in our next league game against Hood.”Although Simmons has been ineligible for Hornets’ opening league and Dudley Eve matches he has been a keen observer on the sidelines. And from what he’s seen so far this term, defending champions North Village, who beat Hornets 2-1 in the Dudley Eve, are once again the team to beat this campaign.“(Dandy Town) are trying to challenge for every trophy and from the games I’ve watched so far the only team I fear are North Village,” said Simmons.“They’re a good quality team with a lot of depth in their squad.”Simmons spent pre-season training with English non-league side Carshalton United on the recommendation of former Bermuda Football Association technical director Derek Broadley. The Bermuda Hogges man had hoped to win a contract at the London-based outfit but found his chances limited and was released before the start of the season.“(Carshalton) let me go once they had brought in some ex-professionals so it was very hard for me to break through. I wasn’t the only player let go and hopefully I’ll go out to the UK again next summer for some more trials,” he said.“Hopefully I can further more football this season by playing and training regularly at Dandy Town.”Simmons, who was an unused substitute in both of Bermuda’s opening World Cup qualifiers, will be hoping to see some action in this week’s ‘do-or-die’ match against Trinidad at the National Sports Centre. He believes they must put Trinidad on the back foot from the outset and wants the home fans to create a cauldron-like atmosphere to intimidate the visitors who are missing several key players.“We’ve got Kwame (Steede) back, while Nahki (Wells) and Freddy (Hall) have arrived,” he said. “We’re feeling comfortable and we know we need six points from both games. We’re at home so hopefully we can take it to them and get the right result. Hopefully the fans will turn out and really get behind us.”
