Tucker stars in college victory
Troy Tucker scored Darton College’s winner in double overtime to seal a 4-3 victory in the Region XVII Championship at Georgia Perimeter College in Dunwoody, Georgia. Tucker’s goal decided the title in what was described as a hard fought match with fellow Bermudian Jaylon Bather also getting in on the scoring act for the winners. Georgia Perimeter got off to a flying start, netting twice in the first six minutes However, Darton maintained their composure and were brought back into the game bysophomore Guilherme Frota’s blast to make it 2-1 before the break. Andrew Palumbo and Bather lit up the Perimeter net in the first ten minutes of the second half to give Darton a 3-2 lead before their opponents took the game into overtime with a shot that keeper Carlos Cantano couldn’t stop. But it was Bermudian Tucker who became the hero as he fired home in the second overtime period to spark Darton’s celebrations. “We came out a little flat,” Darton Head Coach Bart Sasnett said. “They came out on fire and that changed the game. “It was probably one of the most thrilling games I’ve ever been a part of. “The freshmen had to step up, and they did, Troy’s goal was just the capper. “It was a huge shot and an amazing win.” The Cavaliers now advance to the Southeast District final against Spartanburg Methodist College in South Carolina on Saturday. The winners will advance to the NJCAA Championships, hosted by Paradise Valley Community College in Phoenix, Arizona.
