Nusum calls for improvement from league leaders Wolves

Wolves coach John Barry Nusum believes the best is still to come from his side as they moved two points clear at the top of the First Division over the weekend. The Devonshire side beat third placed Flanagan’s Onions on Sunday to leave them on 16 points and with a game in hand on their second tier rivals.Looking at the additions made to their team during the offseason, bringing in a wealth of talent including midfielders Jared Peniston and Troy Tucker, one would have assumed that promotion would be a sure thing for the club.Although Wolves seem to be on course for promotion to the top flight next season, though, Nusum believes there is still plenty of room for improvement.“We are in a good positions but I grade the campaign thus far as a ‘C’ because although we have gotten the desired results, our standard of play hasn’t been that great,” said the Bermuda international.“Some would say that as long as you are getting the result you are okay, but for us we want to take it to the next level and really put our mark on the league.“With that being said, it’s a positive in that we can get better and in the position we are in that bodes well for the club.”Wolves have beaten their nearest rivals already this term but Nusum wants his side to sure up their defence, despite having the stingiest backline in the league. With time on their side and an inside track to the automatic promotion places, Nusum wants his side to achieve their goal of playing with the big boys next term.“We have progressed since the start of the season, especially with the new guys that have come in and it’s almost the same thing as the national squad in the sense that we progressed and got better as the World Cup games came.“One of the things we need to work on is the defence because we are scoring a lot of goals, but conceding as well and we need to work on this.“The position that we are in at the moment is a good one and the goal is we want to hold onto it and make the most of the opportunity that is in front of us.”Wolves take on Prospect at home on Sunday.
