Coddington runs Rangers ragged

Devonshire Cougars 4Southampton Rangers 1Domico Coddington started and finished Devonshire Cougars’ comfortable victory over a Southampton Rangers side who fell apart at the back and never came to grips with his power or pace.Trailing by a goal with little more than 15 minutes left two clangers by Rangers’ defender Andre Russell and goalkeeper Jason Smith saw Cougars double their tally and kill off any hopes the visiting team might have had of snatching a point.Keith Jennings’ side self-destructed in such astonishing fashion that defender Ijahmon Mallory, the former Cougars player, walked straight off the field at the final whistle, went to his car and left the ground without even going into the dressing room.Aside from creating their own problems Rangers had no answer to Coddington, who gave Maquel Tankard a torrid time all evening, turning him inside out for the first goal and leaving him chasing shadows for much of the night.Coddington opened the scoring with just four minutes gone, bagged his last in the final minute of normal time and in between tormented a Rangers side who at one stage looked like they might get something from last night’s match.Substitute Che Brangman got in on the act during his brief appearance, which saw him also be substituted, and Kwame Steede banged one in from the penalty spot, when Coddington was brought down inside the penalty, to put his side 2-1 up just before the break.Rangers meanwhile had a Dennis Russell header to thank for pulling them level as both teams scored in the first ten minutes, but even that was more down to a defensive error on Cougars’ part and aside from a rasping shot from Vernon Perinchief, which was brilliantly clawed away by Che Clarke, late in the game they produced little to trouble the Cougars’ defence.Devonshire Cougars: C Clarke, J Butterfield, Zeiko White (Korvon Tucker, 80), K Franks, Zeko White, Moses Steede, C Caisey, K Steede, D Coddington, S Pearman, Mark Steede (C Brangman, 63 (J Mouchette, 90)).
