Wells sets sights on Wembley return
By Stephen WrightNahki Wells is hoping he can erase his Wembley heartache by returning to English football’s national stadium with Bradford City in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy. The Bantams travel to Oldham in the northern area semi-finals next Tuesday, with just two rounds standing between them and the showpiece event.Wells was with Carlisle last season when they made the final against Brentford but failed to make the squad and had to settle for a seat in stands.“It was hard to take but I had a bit of a feeling that I’d be left out,” Wells told the Bradford Telegraph and Argus.“A few players came back from injury just before and they were important to the team.“Just to be involved and part of Carlisle when they were in the final was great, even though I didn’t play.“But it would be even better to do it with Bradford this season.”Although Bradford are the only League Two side remaining in the northern section of the draw, Wells is confident they can go all the way.Having already claimed they prized scalps of Sheffield United, Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield, he insists they are relishing their underdog tag.“We’ve done well playing against higher opposition. Leeds beat us just in the Carling Cup but we haven’t lost to any League One clubs yet,” said the 21-year-old.“Oldham are probably the toughest team that’s left in the northern area but if we can beat them, then I’m sure we can win again (in the area final) over two legs.”Since signing for Bradford on a one-year contract in the summer, Wells has made eight appearances scoring two goals, including a 35-yard wonder goal against Rochdale in the FA Cup. The former Dandy Town man also found the net twice during Bermuda’s recent World Cup qualifying campaign.Bradford take on AFC Wimbledon at home in the FA Cup second round on Saturday.
