Wells plays part in Bradford Cup win
The English FA Cup seems to bring out the best in Nahki Wells who helped Bradford City to a 3-1 win over AFC Wimbledon at the weekend.Wells, who scored a match-winning wonder goal against Rochdale in the previous round, came on early in the second half with the score at 2-1 and won his team a 69th minute penalty.Bradford will now travel to Championship side Watford in the third round of the FA Cup to be played on January 7 or 8.It will be the first time in seven years the Bantams have played in the third stage of the competition.Bradford went in front when James Hanson knocked down Craig Fagan's cross for Ross Hannah to flick home at the Coral Windows Stadium on Saturday. The hosts doubled their lead when Chris Bush put through his own net from Ricky Ravenhill's centre.Jack Midson's low drive reduced arrears before Fagan wrapped up the win with a penalty after Jamie Stuart fouled Wells.Phil Parkinson, Bradford's manager, said he was delighted with his team's “ruthless and professional” second half performance.“We conceded a goal in the second half and I'm never happy when we concede but we scored again and that's what I'm pleased with,” he said.“I remember when we played them (AFC Wimbledon) last time at home and we spoke about us doing well on the ball but not good enough without it but today we got both sides right.“We had two or three penalty appeals before we finally got one and Craig (Fagan) stuck it away well which gave us a cushion. At half-time we asked the lads for a ruthless and professional performance and that's what they gave us.”Bermuda international Wells has scored two goals for Bradford in eight appearances this season.Bradford take on Oldham in the northern area semi-final of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy tomorrow night.
