Todd: We must remember who we are
St George’s coach Richard Todd wants his troops to end the first half of their campaign on a good note when they travel to Bernard Park tomorrow to clash with champions North Village.Colts have had a disappointing first half of a season that started promised much following a 5-2 win over Southampton Rangers but then petered out and saw them win just once in their next seven matches.Tomorrow’s match however against the champions gives Colts a chance to move clear of the relegation zone and give themselves some breathing space as they look to improve in the second half of the season.Village themselves are in a bad patch, losing their previous two games, and the defending champions look a shadow of their former selves heading into this game.“It is a vital game for both clubs, it is a game that the winner will take a fell good moment into the break and that is what we will l ook to come out with,” said Todd. “We are looking to record on a win and end on a positive and they will be looking to protect their home field so it sets up nicely to be an entertaining game.“They have a two-game slide at the moment and we want to take full advantage of anything they give us, we know it won’t be easy but if we can put our heads down and do the work than the game will take care of itself.”St George’s have been a disappointment so far in the league, raising doubts over their ability to stay the top flight, especially as they are only two points above the drop zone. For Todd, however, it is a matter of the team sticking to the game plan and working for one another.“The question that we need to ask ourselves is what are we doing differently this year from last year, and I think that the players need to remember who we are and that can help us,” he said.“We are a team that when we work hard and together we get the results, we told them heading into the season that this is the hard one because last year we played off of adrenalin and the fear of going back down.“That lends itself to complacency and we just need to put our heads down and get back to the formula that works for us.”
