Starter Wells wants to repay manager with goals
Nahki Wells plans to make it impossible for Bradford City manager Phil Parkinson to drop him by continuing his recent good form in front of goal.Wells has started City’s last four games with the club claiming nine points from a possible 12, lifting them above the relegation zone to 18th in the League Two table. And having scored twice in his last three outings against Crewe Alexander and Shrewsbury Town the Bermuda international believes he’s beginning to repay the faith Parkinson has shown him.“Everything is starting to fall into place at the moment for me,” said Wells.“I’ve been at Bradford for a few months and things are starting to come together for me, I’m playing regularly and finding some form.“I’ve started the last four in a row, and most of those games have gone our way in terms of results so I’m pleased with that.“I’ve also scored in a few games lately which helps my cause in getting the coach to give me a chance to start games.“Scoring goals helps your confidence and as long as I can help the team in any way then I’m satisfied.”Wells has had to be patient since joining the Bantams in the summer, having struggled to make the first team under Peter Jackson who was sacked as manager at the end of August following a string of poor results.Since Parkinson’s appointment there has been a reversal of fortunes for both City and Wells, though, with the club moving away from the drop zone and the young striker forcing his way into the starting line-up.“(Parkinson) has been here for most of the season but all managers need time to get their squad together,” said Wells, who has scored four goals in all competitions this season.“Initially he rotated the squad and I went down the order because he hadn’t seen me play but I have showed him my worth and he has put his faith in me recently.“He has brought in a few players and we have found a good side that can go and get resultsThe Bantams are in midst of a strong FA Cup run after beating Rochdale 1-0 in the first round thanks to a wonder goal by Wells, before brushing aside AFC Wimbledon 3-1 to set up a clash against Watford in this weekend’s third round. For the 21-year-old, the intriguing tie represents another opportunity for the ex-Dandy Town man to showcase his undoubted potential in the most famous domestic cup competition in the world.“We’re still in the FA Cup and we’re looking to get into the next round as the club hasn’t done that in a long time,” Wells added.“We only dropped two points in December and that’s helped us so we should be fine as long as we can continue doing the things we are doing.“Our main objective is to stay as far away from the relegation zone as possible, our latest results have been favourable and pushed us away from the bottom so we can start to look towards other things.“We have a large squad so even if we did have a few injuries then it wouldn’t be a huge setback.“We’re still in the FA Cup and we’re looking to get into the next round as the club hasn’t done that in a long time.”Bradford take on Championship side Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday.
