Cougars facing a must-win clash

Somerset Trojans v Devonshire CougarsDevonshire Cougars go into tonight’s must-win match at Somerset Trojans painfully aware that anything but a victory will all but end their title aspirations.Having been thrashed by North Village at the Den last weekend, Dennis Brown’s side will desperate to return to winning ways. The West Enders themselves are still smarting from a heavy loss against title chasers PHC, but will fancy their chances against Cougars who have failed to convince so far this term.Even so, the Big Cats should have enough quality in their ranks to beat Trojans and breathe fresh life into their title challenge.Prediction: Cougars 3-2Robin Hood v Southampton RangersRobin Hood have been one the success stories so far this season with Andrew Bascome’s side eight points above the dreaded drop zone.Rangers, five points above relegation, also enjoyed an encouraging first half of the season but came unstuck at home to St George’s in their first match of the new year.Traditionally, the top-flight newcomers tend to falter during second half of the season, so this match, at BAA tomorrow night, might be a decent gauge of how strong Hood actually are.Although there won’t be much in this one, I believe Bascome’s boys will come undone against their more experienced opponents.Prediction: Rangers 2-1PHC v St David’sThis should be a straightforward game for PHC who have surprised plenty of people with how they have fared under new boss Brian Anderson. For me, it’s a matter of how many goals they will beat a hapless St David’s side who have won just once this season.Yes, the East Enders are surely destined for the drop and will little or no answer to Zebras’ potent attack spearheaded by Antwan Russell, the league’s top scorer.Let’s be honest, the chances of St David’s pulling off a shock win here at Southampton Oval are next to nothing.Prediction: PHC 4-0North Village v Boulevard BlazersWith Blazers seeming to have mislaid their fighting spirit, I can’t see them getting any change out of Village who look to have regained their early season swagger. The Red Army have crushed Trojans and Cougars in successive weeks and should have no problems with brushing aside rock-bottom Blazers.Boulevard looked bereft of hope or effort in their embarrassing 7-0 defeat against Hornets last weekend, and unless they turn their fortunes around swiftly they will go down.As for Village, they also need a win to keep their alive their ambitions of defending their title.Prediction: Village 3-0Dandy Town v St George’sThis one could be the match of the weekend.Hornets have been in splendid form recently but in St George’s they will come up against a team that’s never easy to play against.Richard Todd will be encouraged by his team’s win over Trojans last weekend but trying to pinch some points off Hornets may be too tough an ask.Angelo Simmons and Damon Ming have looked unstoppable lately and I just can’t see Colts’ defence managing to contain them.Prediction: Town 3-1
