Cobblers in hunt for keeper to compete with Hall
Northampton Town’s attempt to secure the signing of a second senior goalkeeper to challenge Bermuda’s Freddy Hall for the number-one spot could be delayed.Hall, 26, made only his second senior appearance in Saturday’s 5-2 defeat to Southend United at Sixfields. The former St George’s man made some good saves but also conceded the penalty that provided the Blues with an equaliser after Town had led 2-1 at the break, and afterwards said on Twitter: “Heart broken, hard day at work.”Manager Aidy Boothroyd confirmed before the game that he wanted to sign a second keeper to provide competition in the ranks after losing Shane Higgs to a long-term achilles injury. But he says plans to complete a deal this week may face a delay.“His team are still involved in the FA Cup so we’ve got to wait and see what happens with that,” said Boothroyd told the Northampton Chronicle and Echo.“We do need another keeper, there’s no doubt about that, but we want to get the right one and to get the right one we might have to be a little bit patient.“I’m hoping it will be done in January but you never know, that’s what January is all about.
