Richardson: Premier title remains within our grasp
Robert Richardson insists there is no pressure on his PHC side despite dropping two crucial points against relegation-threatened St David’s at the weekend. The visitors took the lead through Shaki Smith but were pegged back when Anthony Burchall found the net for the East Enders. With Dandy Town defeating St George’s, Zebras relinquished their hold on the summit, and are now two points adrift of Hornets, although Richardson believes the race is only beginning.“You need to be consistent in your results; the result over the weekend wasn’t good for us in terms of the title race, but we are only two points back and everything is still to play for,” said the big defender.“We hope the result against St David’s isn’t detrimental to our season, but we have to remain focused on what is in front of us and make the most of our chances when they come.“There isn’t any pressure on us, we are taking it game by game and at the end of the season we will let the results speak for themselves in the standings, but we don’t feel any pressure after Sunday’s result.”While PHC are far from out of the title race, the side’s next three fixtures are likely to be crucial in determining their destiny.Up next for Zebras are Southampton Rangers, then a trip to St John’s Field to take on Town, before hosting Village the following weekend.“When you look at the fixtures coming up, we still have to play those close to us and those results can go a long way in determining who wins the league,” said Richardson, who was named Digicel Premier Division Player of the Month for December.“The season has been good so far, we had the big results early in the season but are in the thick of the title race and there is all to play for right now.“The Dudley Eve results gave us a kick in the backside in terms of where we had to improve our game and it helped.“It feels pretty good to get this award, it shows that the hard work that is being put in is being noticed. To get a personal accolade is always great, but the main goal is the team success and that it what we are looking for.”
